Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan. It is located on the Absheron peninsula, the “head” of the Azerbaijani eagle, in a bay at the Caspian Sea. It is the largest city of Azerbaijan as well as of the South Caucasus and the political, economic and cultural center of Azerbaijan

Old City or Inner City is the historical core of Baku. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
