(1 vote)

The Hakone Open Air Museum (Hakone Chōkoku No Mori Bijutsukan), successfully attempts to create a harmonic balance of nature and art by exhibiting various sculptures on its spacious grounds in combination with beautiful views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
The Hakone Open-Air Museum opened in 1969 as the first open-air art museum in Japan. It is located in grand nature of Hakone that was once called one of the most rugged paths in Japan. The garden with a view of the mountains of Hakone and changing four seasons provides an ideal outdoor setting to show oversized sculptures.
The museum was founded in 1969 by Nobutaka Shikanai, retired president of Japan's largest communications conglomerate, the Fujisankei Group
The museum's collections include about 100 masterpieces of Rodin, Bourdelle, Miro, Henry Moore and others in the garden; and Brancusi, Morie Ogiwara, Boccioni, Lipchitz, Modigliani, Shin Hongo and others inside.
There is a permanent exhibition of about 120 masterpieces of modern and contemporary sculptors in the world.
