Zadar is the 5th largest city in Croatia situated on the Adriatic Sea. It is the centre of Zadar County and the wider northern Dalmatian region. Zadar is a historical centre of Dalmatia as well as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zadar, a city with rich history dating from prehistoric times to present days.
Turbulent history for centuries, destruction and creation has left scars but also many records of time, today’s valuable cultural heritage of the city. All historical periods have been preserved in many churches and monuments that are visible architectural works of art. Around 70 of them located in the historical centre of the city and other are in wider surroundings there are over 600 cultural monuments
