Munich (München) is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, on the banks of River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg, and the 12th biggest city of the European Union, with a population of above 1.5 million.
Today, more than 1200 fountains sprinkle in Munich as private, communal or stately property. About a hundred of these fountains still bear drinking water, but first and foremost these aquatic installations are a visual delight, and the designed murmurs and ripples of water, a massage to ears strained from the din of urban life.
