ROMANIA - The Greek-Catholic Church in SAPPANTA

(2 votes)

The locality SĂPÂNȚA is known throughout the WORLD for the MERRY CEMETERY located in the immediate vicinity of the former Greek-Catholic church built in 1886. The novelty of this cemetery is its differentiation from popular culture, which considers death as a sad event.
The promoter of this project was STAN IOAN PĂTRAȘ, inspired by the culture of the Dacians - the ancestors of today's Romanians - who considered death as a joyful event, because in this way man gets rid of the burden of life.
Today's parish church is built in Maramureș style, being designed by the architect priest PhD IOAN COSTIN.
The foundation stone of the church was laid on November 16, 2014. The work took place between 2014-2018, being completely executed by the priest TEODOR BÂRSAN, together with his team. The painting was made by Mr. MARCEL POP from the locality BUȘAG (Wikipedia).
